Time to Tighten Up

We never thought it would end up this way. But then again, who’s to say?

It is time to tighten our focus on the world as we descend through the despair of Modern Civilization’s collapse. Exploding social insanity is a human tragedy tied to cultural hubris and irrational fear.

That insanity has been intermittent and localized since civilization was established roughly ten thousand years ago. We accidentally flipped the switch to asset overshoot three hundred years ago and went for broke on the planetary level in the 20th century.

Our blossoming scientific knowledge that made overshoot possible also produced people who began telling us this over a century ago. We laughed and, instead, listened to old-fashioned carnival barkers and prophets who tell us they have all the answers.

Climate collapse is becoming hard to ignore, but the shouting prophets know who to blame for fooling us into sanity. They are right; who wants sanity that would require a desperate reconstruction of modern society, shutting down most of our luxuries and conveniences?

The difficulty of believing such a reconstruction could happen on a planetary level has paralyzed many who understand the desperate need. The part of the population that cannot or will not understand reality is…
