The Weekly Flail: May 9, 2025

OVERVIEW

Needless to say, things are getting worse by the day, planet-wide. Politically and economically, the Trump disaster is taking hold. The great majority of people understand this now.

Business executives are calling for the end of Trump’s tariff shenanigans. Still, he is oblivious to anything but the noises in his head and whoever was last allowed to talk to him — transcripts of his responses to public questions that are not preprogrammed show worsening dementia.

Unsourced statements from White House staff show growing concern about blatant criminal behaviour and massive corruption. His crypto actions are open bribes with no pretense of legality.

The trade “deals,” said to be laboring in the background, finally brought forth a mouse with Starmer and Great Britain. The deal does not look good for Britain, who still have 10% tariffs, as a tax on American buyers in exchange for a vague promise of a Boeing purchase somewhere down the road.

Trade meetings are scheduled this weekend with China, which will be interesting as Trump is desperate for something after hoisting himself on his own tariff petard. I expect that the Chinese will make him sing and dance and then skin Trump publicly. The other option is that they may play him like a fish.
