The Weekly Flail — January 25, 2025

OVERVIEW

After much consideration, we will add governmental disasters in the United States to our weekly list. Trump’s election has proven to be as bad or worse than any of us expected. We will limit this to planetary problems, although those are accelerating and already overwhelming. As usual, in the Overview, I will reference some of the political disasters while we focus on the broader climate, scientific, and technological issues in the body of The Flail.

Trump’s mental problems are incredibly complicated by senility, resulting in wild executive actions designed to punish anyone who opposed him but that irrational and, the best word is probably, befuddled. This is not helped by the low mental quality of his clown care of appointees.

The point, as laid out originally by Steve Bannon, is to flood the media with shit spreading chaos and confusion. The goal is to make people give up in any effort to understand what is happening, leaving the Trump cohort freedom to destroy national institutions and enrich themselves. As people are already exhausted from an endless campaign typified by stupidity and outrage, many people have already given up.
