The Weekly Flail — April 5, 2025

OVERVIEW

I will, henceforth, stop describing the nature of the previous week in The Flail. They are evil and getting worse. The end is near but not near enough. So, we need to prepare while getting on with life that is still tolerable, depending on where we are.

The overall political situation is an ongoing discussion on the Trump-led chaos engulfing parts of the planet. Is it sheer insanity and stupidity, or is it a fully committed effort to destroy the existing world order: 1) so Trump can say he did it: 2) because he is Putin’s fool completing the old KGB goals of destroying the US; 3) So the juvenile tech boys can privatize everything for plunder to fund their escape from planet Earth and promising a seat for Trump.

There are fringe constituencies for each option, although none are people you want to associate with. My position is all of the above. What we are in is not a simple Hollywood disaster.

My apologies for the late publication today, but reality intruded by taking my car on Wednesday. It died a final death after almost precisely twenty years. We have had only one since last year, so a replacement was urgent and took three days of exhausting capitalist entanglement. We are now fully electric.
