OVERVIEW
Our reality is increasingly grim. While for most of our planet, the accelerating collapse of the United States under the rule of an insane and senile president is the overwhelming and exhausting concern, with genocidal wars, wilful ignorance and diseased hatred in control, science continues to provide new knowledge and ways of understanding our planet, biosphere, and universe. We need to hold on to and take pride in that as the good we are accomplishing.
I’m unsure how or if this knowledge will survive this century in human hands, but that is my hope and goal. In other essays and articles, I deal with the reality of what we have done and how we have failed, knowledge of what we are doing, and the generally hidden stories of societies facing growing disaster are impressive.
The odds are that our species will survive, but not with the troubled and greedy culture that is our current existence. The dominant political systems driven by capitalism and authoritarianism are pathological and will, I think, fail within the next decade. I hope to live to see that with something much better budding in the ruins. That is only a hope, but it is enough to keep me working to tell the story.
