Saying the forbidden out loud
A lament for two populations
While flooding the national media space with shit creates short-term confusion, in America and elsewhere, we have been living with this for years. It is very tiring and requires little effort to see how it fails. But, of course, it does not fail for everyone, and therein lies the first point of this week’s Lament.
Everything we are dealing with now is complex. The brains behind Trump, such as they are, generally confuse complexity with irrationality. Having worked for years to convince their target audience that science and logic are lies, they have befuddled themselves.
My years in the entertainment media taught me the truth of the old producer who said, don’t start believing your own bullshit.
At the same time, the new neofascist/authoritarian advocates are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Some of them are intelligent enough to be dangerous, but the people they work with tend to be below average.
And they have hooked their wagon to Donald Trump, who has never had much going for him but lots of stolen money. Trump has been mentally degenerating for some years and, in the pattern of senility, fades in and out of a delusional world.
