The Monday Lament: Buying Future Grief

It didn’t have to be this way

America’s consensus is to ignore the future, come hell, high water, or the very future being ignored. And that is a problem with the future; it comes whether you accept it or not.

Thinking about the future is now synonymous with doom-scrolling. There is a self-explanatory reason for that, as our future sucks. However, it does not help to ignore it, so what do we do?

For the last five years, we have been able to avoid the future by simply not dealing with it outside of our everyday routine. All the bad things were down the road, and even though we hear that they are getting closer, they are still not next week.

Sadly, that is no longer true. Having elected a congenital liar who is also a pathological narcissist, a chaos agent, a criminal, and stunningly ignorant for the second time, the chickens are coming home to roost.

The first wave of big and ugly chickens is Trump’s tariffs. Tragically, this did not need to happen as it is the result of allowing someone such as Trump to surround himself with people as sick and stupid as he is.

Trump emptied the jails to get the people that he wanted. Over the years, we have watched Trump announce what he would do by accusing everyone else of doing it. With Trump’s…
