Donald Trump has long been a useful fool. He was also involved in other things, primarily being a con artist and political grifter, having been trained by his father and Roy Cohn, a New York fixer. But his business failure left him at the mercy of Russian oligarchs with money to launder.
The confluence of events, bearing some resemblance to a pachinko machine, has played on Trump’s dominant characteristic as a pathological narcissist, completely lacking in ethics or morality. He has been the shiny steel ball that influential people could use to score points by making him feel powerful.
Since 2015, each stage of this process has reduced Trump’s role as he has lost mental functionality. However, this has played into the hands of a subset of the new Silicon Valley billionaires, themselves the accidental products of profound technological inventions and late-stage American economic dysfunction.
Trump was perfectly designed as the authoritarian TV billionaire boss for the low-information American population, which was increasingly feeling alienated and left behind.
